11 patients treated after Walmart stabbing in Michigan

(NewsNation) — A suspect is in custody after a “multiple stabbing incident” at a Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan, local police officials said Saturday evening.

The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office urged the public to avoid the shopping center where the incident occurred.

Munson Medical Center said 11 victims were being treated.

"Our thoughts are with all those affected by this event, and we are grateful to the first responders and law enforcement for their swift action," hospital officials said on social media.

A Walmart corporate spokesperson, Joe Pennington, said by email that the company was “working with police and defer questions to them right now.”

Traverse City is located in northern Michigan, about 250 miles northwest of Detroit.
