2 state troopers shot in Pennsylvania, suspect dead

(NewsNation) — Two Pennsylvania state troopers were shot in Susquehanna County on Thursday morning, according to Gov. Josh Shapiro.

The suspect in the shooting is dead and there is no active threat.

Shapiro announced the shooting during a press conference.

NewsNation local affiliate WPHL reports authorities began investigating the shooting at 11:30 a.m. in the area of State Route 171 near Thompson Township and Susquehanna.

Shapiro said he would be heading to the scene this afternoon, adding that Col. Christopher Paris, commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Police, was on the ground already.

U.S. Rep. Rob Bresnahan posted on social media that he was "relieved to hear the troopers involved in today’s incident in Thompson Township are expected to be in stable condition."

Sen. Dave McCormick also responded to the shooting on social media, writing, "Dina and I are praying for our brave state troopers in Susquehanna County and monitoring the situation closely as more details emerge."
