(NewsNation) — A car drove into a crowd in East Hollywood early Saturday morning, injuring around 30 people, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.
The call came in for a crash outside the Vermont Nightclub on West Monica Boulevard around 2 a.m. local time.
"Somebody lost consciousness inside the vehicle, drove into a taco cart and ultimately ran into a large number of people," LAFD Public Information Officer Adam Van Gerpen.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said officials are investigating.
“This is a heartbreaking tragedy," Bass said in a statement. “The hearts of Angelenos are with all of the victims impacted this morning."
Some people on social media who said they were there reported hearing gun shots. Van Gerpen said one patient appeared to have a gunshot wound, but it is "unconfirmed," and the investigation is ongoing.
Three are in critical condition, and six are in serious condition, LAFD said in a statement. More than 120 fire personnel were on scene.
NewsNation contacted the LAFD for comment.
