(NewsNation) — The dead gunman police say shot up four Centers for Disease Control and Prevention buildings has been identified as 30-year-old Patrick Joseph White of Kennesaw, Georgia, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced Saturday morning.
The shooter was found dead on the second floor of a building near the CDC campus after police rushed to Emory University in response to calls about an active shooter Friday.
Dekalb County Officer David Rose was shot as he confronted the gunman and has died of his injuries.
Police are investigating the gunman’s motive and whether he was targeting the CDC.
"There is extensive evidence to collect due to the complex scene. Numerous interviews are being conducted. This investigation will take an extended period of time," the GBI said in a press release.
Without naming White last night, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens described him as a “known person that may have, some interest in certain things.”
