(NewsNation) — Authorities have "good footage" of the suspect in the fatal shooting of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk, who is still at large.
Here's what we know:
Activist, media personality and Turning Point USA co-founder Charlie Kirk was fatally shot while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University. No other people were harmed and it appears only one shot was fired. Kirk was taken to a hospital by his security team and later pronounced dead.
Authorities initially said a suspect was in custody, then later said that person had been released. Another person was taken into custody later that night and released after questioning. Officials say neither of those individuals were involved and have asked the public not to harass them.
As of Thursday, authorities say the suspect is still at large. Investigators say the shooter was on the roof of a building 200 yards away from where Kirk was speaking and jumped off the roof and fled through a neighborhood after the shooting. A high-powered, bolt-action rifle was found in the woods and is believed to be the weapon used in the shooting.
Investigators declined to say whether they had identified the shooter and have not yet released any video or images showing the suspect. FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert Bohls said the suspect "appears to be of college age" and blended in well at the event.
