The clip gained traction on platforms in mainland China, including Douyin, the mainland’s version of TikTok. It was captioned “It’s too hot. Let me fan some wind.”

“The police have confirmed that the woman in the video is an active-duty police officer. The police are taking the matter very seriously and have ordered the officer to remove the video from online platforms,” a police spokesperson told HKFP on Sunday. “An internal investigation is underway. The police always place great importance on the conduct and image of their officers, and any misconduct discovered will be dealt with severely.”

Identifying numbers on the officer’s shirt sleeves were covered up in the clip.

Some commenters praised her appearance, as others questioned if she was a real officer.

The Police General Orders forbid behaviour that could bring the force into disrepute or damage an officer’s professional image.
