Three Hong Kong Tiananmen vigil activists convicted under the national security law will be sentenced this Friday, with each of them facing maximum penalties of 10 years behind bars.

The trio are former leaders of the Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China, which used to organise annual Tiananmen vigils in Causeway Bay’s Victoria Park until they were banned in 2020 and 2021.
Chow and Lee, a former lawmaker, pleaded not guilty to inciting subversion, and sat through a trial earlier this year.
They were found guilty last month, with the judges saying they had “all along been hostile towards the [Chinese Communist Party] and the Central Government under its leadership.”

Ho, also a former lawmaker, pleaded guilty when the trial began in January. Unlike Chow and Lee, he was initially granted bail after being charged, but was remanded in March 2023 after a magistrate ruled he had violated bail conditions.
The Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements of China announced its disbandment in September 2021 amid the enactment of the national security law.
The group itself was also prosecuted, and convicted along with Chow and Lee last month.
