What happens when Mercury retrograde is over?

Lift the gag orders! A few hours after Aries season begins, messenger Mercury wakes up from its choppy, three-week retrograde that began on February 26 and took place in Pisces.

While the messenger planet backstroked through these murky waters, the emotional currents felt more like a riptide—and regularly overtook everyone’s better senses. If you found yourself crying “inexplicably” or for a solid reason, you’ll have to admit that the tears were healing. But enough of this three-hanky drama, it’s time to turn those emotions into action.

With Mercury back on track: chronic misunderstandings give way to healing reconciliations and contracts that were held up in red tape can finally move into the negotiation (and signing!) phase. With the world at war and turbulence raging around the globe, we can only hope that this means ceasefires and legislation that’s “for the people, by the people” instead of the destruction that has marked 2026 so far.

On a personal level, don’t lose the important message Mercury retrograde taught about the pitfalls of skimming the surface instead of finding out what lies beneath. Move ahead with new resolve to slow down, get every question answered and to read the fine print!

Mercury retrograde is over, but the shadow period is not

Mercury retrograde officially ends March 20—but that  doesn’t mean we’re in the clear. For a couple days before or after a planet is retrograde it goes through a period called “stationing,” when it’s adjusting to the U-turn. You may feel the effects from winding down (or ramping up), like the lingering fumes of a car with a bad exhaust system.

That’s not the only adjustment. For approximately two weeks after Mercury retrograde is over, the planet lingers in its “retroshade,” AKA the shadow period. Here’s how it works:

• After moving backwards through the zodiac from February 26 to March 20, Mercury has to make up the distance it lost.

• The retrograde began at 22°34’ of Pisces on February 26. By March 20 (the end of the retrograde), Mercury retreated all the way back to 8°31’ of Pisces.

• As Mercury pivots back into forward motion, it will take until April 9 to return to 22°34’ Pisces—the degree it was at on February 26 when the retrograde began.

But rest assured, when Mercury ends, you can expect…

An end to chronic misunderstandings and adventure hiccups that disrupted the end of winter is nigh. Mercury’s direct turn paves the way to healing reconciliations and smoother plans this spring!

Mercury, the silver-tongued celestial flirt, continues its hang-out in Pisces until April 14. Mercury’s stay is a bit prolonged in the nebulous sign, thanks to the retrograde.

The deeper lesson? Don’t ignore what Mercury retrograde revealed. Even if the insights came through a little tough love, they’re worth their weight in gold. Carry them with you once Mercury retrograde is over. Ask the extra question. Read the fine print. Trust that slowing down was the shortcut you needed all along. See your sign’s horoscope below!

♊️ GEMINI (May 20-Jun 20): Come out, come out, Twin!
