(NewsNation) — Popular online payment platforms PayPal and Venmo were down Friday morning, preventing many users from sending or receiving payments. PayPal acquired Venmo in 2013.

The PayPal status page indicated "service disruptions" to the online checkout, retail checkout, reporting and Braintree areas of the service. Venmo's status was marked as "operational"; however, some users reported outages.

"We are still observing impact to Retail Checkout, Online Checkout and Braintree in our production Environment. Our Technical teams are actively investigating and working to mitigate the impact as quickly as possible. We will continue to provide updates as the situation progresses," PayPal said.

So far, there has been no official statement regarding Venmo's outages.
