(NewsNation) — President Trump claims crime is down 100% in Washington D.C. following his administration’s federal takeover in August, but statistics released by local police, under his administration's control, show violent crime is down 39%.

On Wednesday, Trump made the claim while meeting with Poland’s President Karol Nawrocki in the Oval Office. This comes as Trump continues to weigh sending federal troops to Chicago and now New Orleans, as part of his crackdown on crime.

“Washington D.C. is a totally safe city. You are not reporting any crime because there is none,” President Trump said. “They said crime is down 87%, then I said ‘no it’s not. It’s down 100%.’”

A 100% reduction would mean no crimes are being committed.

According to data released by the city’s Metropolitan Police Department, overall crime in D.C. has decreased by 15% and violent crime has decreased 39%, during the federal enforcement surge compared to the same time last year. Homicides are marked as having dropped 58% and robberies 57%.

“If you look at Washington D.C. three weeks ago, it was the same or worse and now it is considered a totally safe zone. Restaurants are open, they are bustling,” Trump said. “We have a great thing going. I could do that with Chicago, we could do that with New York, we could do it with Los Angeles.”

Earlier this week, President Trump praised D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser in a social media post, writing she has become “very popular because she worked with me and my great people in bringing CRIME down to virtually nothing.”

On Tuesday, Bowser signed an order authorizing coordination between the city’s police and federal forces beyond Trump’s emergency crime declaration under the Home Rule Act, that is set to expire on September 10.
