Robert F. Kennedy Jr will join Elizabeth Vargas Reports this evening to discuss the new MAHA Commission report. Tune in at 7P/6C. Find out how to watch.
(NewsNation) — Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s “Make America Healthy Again” Commission released its "Make Our Children Healthy Again Strategy Report" on Tuesday after it was delayed last month.
This plan outlines the Trump Administration’s approach to pursuing rigorous, gold-standard scientific research to guide informed decisions, promote healthy outcomes for children and families, and drive innovative solutions.
The 20-page report “outlines a strategic approach for executive actions to address the childhood chronic disease crisis through advancing research, realigning incentives, increasing public awareness, and fostering private sector collaborations. Together, this strategy will translate the work of the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement to policies that make a transformative and lasting impact for Americans and end the childhood chronic disease crisis.”
The Commission announced in the report that, “The National Institutes of Health (NIH) will launch an Initiative on Chronic Disease to leverage and align existing NIH research projects, improve NIH coordination on chronic disease research, and generate actionable results for diseases arising in childhood and adulthood.”
Additionally, the NIH will “launch a new Whole-Person-Health approach to chronic disease prevention research and leverage collective expertise across the agency to catalyze transformative discovery science and intervention strategies that promote wellness, resilience, and optimal health, including metabolic health, at all stages of life.”
The study also stated that HHS would continue to study the root causes of autism, and investigate vaccine injuries “...with improved data collection and analysis, including through a new vaccine injury research program at the NIH Clinical Center that may expand to centers around the country. "
Kennedy announced that after this press conference, he would be meeting with President Trump at the Oval Office to make a "historic" announcement.
“The Trump Administration is mobilizing every part of government to confront the childhood chronic disease epidemic. This strategy represents the most sweeping reform agenda in modern history—realigning our food and health systems, driving education, and unleashing science to protect America’s children and families. We are ending the corporate capture of public health, restoring transparency, and putting gold-standard science—not special interests—at the center of every decision," Kennedy said.
The U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Brooke Rollins, said, “Today’s MAHA Commission report is another historic milestone for our country and a testament to President Trump’s leadership and commitment to Make America Healthy Again. America’s farmers and ranchers are at the heart of the solution — alongside doctors, parents, and communities - to fight chronic disease and protect future generations. Under this Administration, we are not just talking about healthy outcomes; we are delivering them by securing voluntary commitments to remove artificial food dye from major brands, providing technical assistance to States interested in restricting junk food and soda from SNAP, and providing growers with new tools to maintain and improve soil health, including the introduction of a regenerative farming practice pilot program. Together with our partners at HHS and EPA, we are charting a new course, strengthening the health of our families, and ensuring the United States leads the world with the safest, strongest, and most abundant food supply.”
EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin stated, “Protecting human health and the environment while powering America's comeback isn’t just about serving Americans today; it’s about ensuring future generations inherit clean air, land, water, and the foundation for healthy lives. The Make America Healthy Again strategy outlines the keys to success from pro-growth policies that advance research and drive innovation to private sector collaboration and increased public awareness. I look forward to continuing to work collaboratively across the federal family to ensure our kids and our environment are protected.”
NIH Director Dr. Jay Bhattacharya said, “The MAHA Report provides a blueprint for the entire government to focus on solving the chronic disease crisis facing American children. We must make America healthy again so our children live longer and healthier lives than we will.”
FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary said, “For too long health care has used a reactive approach to chronic diseases. I am pleased to support the findings of the MAHA commission and to promote a more proactive approach, tackling root causes undermining the health and happiness of American children.”
The report was scheduled to go to the president last month. The White House informed NewsNation at the time that the August 12 deadline was not met due to scheduling issues.
“The MAHA Commission is on track to submit its Make Our Children Healthy Again Strategy Report to the President on Aug. 12. The report will be unveiled to the public shortly thereafter, as we coordinate the schedules of the President and the various Cabinet members who are a part of the Commission.”
Supporters of the MAHA movement, including advocates for children’s health, have anticipated the release of the report, which is expected to examine what many see as the root causes behind rising chronic illness in America.
