NEW YORK (NewsNation) — Authorities were searching for multiple suspects Monday after three people were killed and nine others were wounded in what appeared to be a gang-related shooting at a bar in New York City over the weekend.

Police said four gunmen fired more than 40 shots just after midnight Sunday in Brooklyn. The three people killed were men aged 19, 27 and 35. At least nine others, ranging in ages from 19 to 61, were taken to local hospitals, authorities said. Officials said they believe some victims were innocent bystanders.

NYPD: Argument, gang feud sparked NYC nightclub attack

NYC Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the preliminary investigation found the incident stemmed from an argument inside the club and that it appeared to be gang-related.

"Approximately 60% of our shootings in New York City are gang-related," Tisch said. "And so we really see gangs driving so much of the violence in New York City, and a lot of our work in bringing the shooting numbers down so far this year has been because of our relentless focus on guns and gangs."

Declining crime rates not a comfort to victims: Mayor Eric Adams

The shooting comes weeks after the NYPD reported record-low, city-wide crime statistics for the first five months of 2025.

In 2024, the Brooklyn district attorney reported a 15% drop in shootings borough-wide.

However, New York City Mayor Eric Adams acknowledged the human toll.

"I can easily stand here and tell you how we have driven down crime, that we have removed over 22,000 illegal guns off our streets. I can give you those numbers, but that does not comfort those who are the victims of gun violence," he said. "We will continue our aggressive pursuit to remove these illegal guns off our streets."

Police said the Brooklyn bar was also the scene of another shooting last November. No arrests have been made in Sunday's attack.
