(NewsNation) — Wendy Williams' attorney tells NewsNation that a recent leak of her medical report was not about medicine, but "manipulation," alleging it was her guardian's doing.
Joe Tacopina joined "Banfield" on Tuesday night to discuss the leak, which reportedly showed previous diagnoses that the former talk show host has dementia were accurate, according to People.
Tacopina disputes this notion, suggesting no such medical testing has taken place.
Less rights than a felon: Attorney
Williams, 61, was seen outside the restaurant Tucci in New York City on Saturday night, walking arm-in-arm with restaurateur Max Tucci, when she briefly spoke to Page Six about her latest health update.
Last week, the former talk show host’s guardianship was upheld by a judge after she was diagnosed again with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia, according to People magazine. She was first diagnosed with FTD and aphasia in 2023.
Williams has been in a controversial court-ordered guardianship since May 2022, as conversations continue to circulate about her health. In 2022, Sabrina Morrissey was appointed Williams’ conservator.
Williams initially wanted to be placed in a conservatorship but didn’t realize “her whole life would be taken away,” People reported in March.
"She has less rights than a convicted felon under probation, and that, to me, is the scariest part of this whole thing," Tacopina told NewsNation.
Williams' medical report is a 'lie'
Tacopina added that the supposed leaked medical report is a "lie" and called it a "disgrace."
"Where is this report when no one's seen the report because it's not accurate? She hasn't completed her medical diagnosis. I've spoken to her guardianship," he said.
"It's not about medicine. It's about manipulation. It's a weapon being used by those who profit. I'll be quite blunt, profit from keeping Wendy under this abuse of guardianship situation."
Tacopina suggested if the leak was real, it would be a HIPPA violation and urged those responsible to come forward with proof of a medical report.
He alleged the person culpable was Morrissey, Williams' conservator.
"Let's call a spade a spade, and I'm not afraid to accept responsibility for my words. Of course, it's Sabrina Morissey. Of course it's the guardian. Who else would leak? Who else would leak a finding that supports her position, you know?"
Wendy Williams is 'doing great'
"She's doing great. I mean, I'm so perplexed by this," Tacopina said of his client's health. "She is in control for faculties as anyone else I speak to on a daily basis.
"Aside from the fact that she doesn't have her liberties, her freedom, her human dignity that's been stripped from her, she's fine as a human being. She understands what's going on, and she just wants her life back."
